About Nukutukulea

Our Mission

“Learning begins when life begins”

Fakaalofa lahi atu Parents :)

We welcome you to Nukutukulea Aoga Niue – a place where we love to learn and develop our children’s curious minds. We are driven by our passion to provide excellence in early learning, and have a team of passionate and dedicated professional Kaiako who are warm, friendly and fun individuals.

We view ourselves as co-learners and reflective educators who actively listen and provoke active dialogue along-side our children. To provide the best in what we do, we encourage parental participation in the learning activities of our children. We have an open-door policy where you are welcome to discuss and provide your valuable feedback to us. We encourage you to come and meet our staff any time and allow us to whakawhanaugatanga with you and your whanau :)

At Nukutukulea our environments cater for our tamariki 2 years to 5 years or until they are ready for BIG school. With energy, self discovery, experimentation and active exploration, these are used to encourage learning and development in this respective age group. Also, within our educational environment, our tamariki are at the forefront of what we do, and we allow our children to actively engage in authentic and meaningful learning experiences that evoke wonder, joy and a genuine love for life-long learning. We welcome you to come visit us and see for yourself the rich and supportive environment we have to offer.

Te Whâriki

We incorporate Te Whâriki that states “Children should grow up as competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit. Secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society.” Our curriculum is based on goals and learning outcomes that is directed from the interests, learning and development of each child.

Te Whâriki is a Maori term meaning “the woven mat”. It refers to the principles and strands of early learning being woven together.

The four principles are:

  • empowerment
  • holistic development
  • family and community
  • relationships

The five strands are:

  • well-being
  • belonging
  • contribution
  • communication
  • exploration

We also strongly believe in parent’s participation in the care and learning of children, thus we have an open door policy for our parents to come in to discuss or participate in the activities at the centre.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

We believe in creating an authentic learning environment where tamariki feel safe and secure, where they will grow with love and respect for who they are and where they come from - to connect with their Whakapapa and Matohiaga.

We believe in creating a cultural and natural and learning environment where tamariki feel safe and secure and are loved, nurtured and respected by our passionate Kaiako.

We believe that all our tamariki should grow and flourish in a space where cultural and spiritual values of respect, love and faith are instilled in their early stages of learning.

We believe that all our tamariki explore and make sense of the learning environment by initiating their own learning through play.

We believe that all our tamariki will have responsive and reciprocal interactions with each other and their Kaiako, so that they may grow up to be confident and successful life-long learners.

We believe in the principals of Te Tiriti ō Waitangi and will implement Te Whāriki by meaningfully incorporating Te Reo and Tikanga Māori into the everyday life of Nukutukulea Aoga Niue.

We believe that all tamariki are special and unique in their own way and will promote equitable outcomes for all our tamariki and fanau.

The aim is to provide all our tamariki opportunities and experiences that maintain and retain the use of Vagahau Niue and the Niue culture - ke fakatumau ke fakaaoga mo e fakagahua e Vagahau Niue mo e fakaako e tau mahani mo e aga motu, tau taoga mo e tau taleni he tau mamatua he vahā tuai.

Our Team

We are proud of and have confidence in our dedicated and professional kaiako, who enable us to provide exceptional care and learning. Our staff have over 15+ years of experience and provide commitment to children and their ability to provide a service that reflects aroha, whakaute and maramatanga of our tamariki.

Our Programmes

THE FIRST FIVE YEARS LAST A LIFETIME:

The well-being of the child underpins all that we do at Nukutukulea.

Our environments and learning experiences presented to the children are reflected in the knowledge of an emergent curriculum. Our programme is based on New Zealand Early Years Learning framework of Te Whâriki. We have also been inspired by a bi-cultural practice under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Children’s learning is fostered and enhanced through exploration, play and experimentation, whilst being challenged and supported by their kaiako.

We believe in the potential of each child to participate in, and work towards his/her own development and growth within a warm, caring and rich play environment.

Parent Involvement

We welcome parent involvement as a natural extension of the home environment. Nukutukulea has an open door policy where we welcome you to the centre throughout the day to share in the experiences your child is participating in. We encourage regular and thorough discussion between parent and educators, which we encourage on the Storypark platform as well as in-person. Our team appreciates discussing individual children with their parents and will always make the time to be available :)
